The greatest advantage of getting multiple degrees and certifications in wellness areas (Nutrition, Exercise Physiology, and the Spine) is that it allows you to separate a whole lot of fiction from fact. Going through this education you get to study science and research. As a result, it’s shocking, amazing, and at the same time horrifying to see how much of what we the public have been led to believe is simply made up. Some time it’s a legend in that you have no idea where it came from, some times it’s a myth from grandma, and now more and more – it’s just simply marketing (or lying however you want to put it).
In the mid eighties, the medical profession released a statement that good nutrition had nothing to do with health and that supplements give you “expensive urine.” The truth behind this came out later in the early nineties when they tried to have the sale of supplements banned so that they could control the sales – threat that still exists in potential legislation today. Of course, going to Chiropractic school, I don’t have to tell you the myths, legends, and marketing that medicine has put out to stop that.
Recently, we’ve all became aware of the fact that all medication holds dangerous side-effects, medicine is the leading killer in America, margarine and other foods containing trans-fats are bad for you, and more recently that aspartame, splenda, soy products, canola oil, and too many processed carbs are really bad for you. What’s funny, however, is that when I went to college 11 years ago (my God has it been that long), these studies were already in existence …ad nauseum.
Before they started pulling the mercury out of the vaccines, before the black box labels went on all of the hyperactivity/learning disorder medications, before the class action suits against Vioxx/Celebrex and all the antidepressant manufacturers, before hormone replacement therapy was halted for causing cancer and heart disease, before we understood the damaging effects of toxic foods and tap water, etc., etc., etc. Before all of this was common knowledge IT WAS KNOWN KNOWLEDGE. I’ve been reading about these things and warning people about them since I was 18 years old. I’ve watched an endless amount of people suffer intensively and/or die a tragic, early death because they’re hopeful the myths and legends are true so they don’t have to change. Or just waiting …..
In the last 18-24 months, major Medical Universities, the Mayo Clinic, medical researchers from Japan, and the Journal of Geriatrics have released studies showing that subluxation, a loss of the normal 34-43 degree curve in the neck, and/or humping of the mid-back causes early death and major organ dysfunction, yet still 85% of the population has never even had their spine checked! Worse yet others actually get their spine checked, see they have a reversed cervical curve, and decide not to fix it! How long will people wait to act on this knowledge? How many have to die?
PLEASE HELP US SPREAD THE WORD. IF NOT YOU, THEN WHO?
