Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. – James 4:4

Last week we studied the word in James 4:4 “wishes.” We learned that wishes here meant actively living by the world’s standards and being passive when it came to doing good and looking after others. Either way, we became an enemy and not a friend.

This week, we look at the very intriguing statement “makes himself (or herself) an enemy of God.” The Greek word used here is “kathistatai.” It means “to set in place, to cause, to become, to put down.”

In other words, when you are passive in serving and simply accept your propensity to think fondly of the world’s offerings, you put yourself down in the place of being God’s enemy. You occupy enemy territory. You cause yourself to enlist in the devil’s army.

Severe side effects are being reported, amid controversy, over requiring young girls to take Gardasil, Merck’s new vaccine for human papillomavirus (HPV). 1,637 adverse reactions have been reported including three girls who just died shortly after receiving the immunization. Judicial Watch needed the “Freedom of Information act” to obtain the reports from the FDA.

Passively serving God is active disobedience. Passivity is exactly the same as stepping over to the enemy’s camp and fighting for the bad side. God does not tolerate fence-sitters. Jesus said if you are lukewarm that He “vomits” you out of his mouth! Get hot. Get cold. Or get out. (Thanks Dr. Moen)

All around us, people are ignoring their spine and nervous systems, taking deadly medications, and breaking God’s laws of life with how they live and eat.

Jesus said, “What you do to others in need, you do to me.” When you saw the parents of those girls, how come you did not say “You have got to talk to my chiropractor before you allow that shot!” You might have saved their lives. Get active. Be a friend. You will see Jesus / others in need again today.
