While it’s clear to patients and becoming clearer to researchers that chiropractic care saves and preserves lives because of the effect it has on the central nervous system and the organs involved, what’s not always known is how just the very choice of chiropractic saves lives.

When someone is in pain, they have three choices:

  1. Ignore it
  2. Take a drug
  3. Restore normal function through chiropractic care.

Ignoring it is obviously a bad idea in that the cause goes on uncorrected and gets worse-even if the pain comes and goes.  It is, however, a far better idea then drugs.  The reason: not only are you still ignoring the cause, but painkillers have been found very deadly.  See latest research below.

November 14, 2005: Taking pain relievers called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS)–including Cox-2 inhibitors such as Celebrex, Vioxx, Ibuprofin, Motrin, etc.–after a heart attack, increases the risk of death, a new study has found.

The higher the dose, the higher the risk of death, according to research presented at the 2005 American Heart Association’s scientific sessions in Dallas, Texas.

The crazy part, the deaths that occurred were not due to a second heart attack.  They found that when people took these medications, their risk of death went up as high as 500% depending on the dose.  The deaths occurred for a number of reasons, all caused by the medications, but not from a second heart attack.

Painkillers of all kinds have come under attack by the scientific community-think Vioxx scandal-for being leading causes of heart attacks, kidney failure, liver failure, and cancer.

Another way that chiropractic care saves is when people choose adjustments over dangerous drugs and perilous surgery.

September

September 18th is Chiropractic’s birthday. As it has always presented a change from the status quo and is in direct competition with drug companies and the medical profession, it came into the world as an unwanted child.

Yet, due to its incredible safety record (Chiropractic malpractice insurance is about the cost of car insurance compared to five to six figure malpractice for medical doctors) and results, Chiropractic has stayed in the wellness family. The number of people being adjusted has grown by millions of patients each and every single year since Chiropractic’s discovery in 1895.

Recently, The medical journal: Journal of Manipulative and Physiologic Therapeutics (JMPT) published a study that analyzed data from health comparisons between those utilizing a wellness oriented chiropractor as their Primary Care Physician and those who’s PCP practice conventional medicine. Here are the findings:

Chiropractic/wellness patients had 60.2% fewer hospital admissions, 59% less days hospitalized, 62% less outpatient surgeries, and 85% less pharmaceutical costs (AMAZING!).

The same journal published the findings of 311 chiropractic patients, ages 65 and older, who had received “maintenance care” for five years or longer. What they found when compared with citizens their own age:

- Chiropractic patients spent only 31% of the national average for health care

- They had 50% less medical provider visits

- Their health habits were radically better than overall populations

- They had far less cigarette consumption

- 98.5% believed that care to be considerably or extremely valuable (WOW!)

Another recent study in the medical journal: Spine, 2007:32:2102-2018 STATES: Spinal problems reduce quality of life, decrease mobility, lower longevity, and increase the risk of coronary artery disease.

112 years after its birth, the unwanted child of health care is proving to radically improve lives, transforming the way people live to the right way, saving lives, and adding years to life. All should be celebrating Chiropractic’s birth!

Celebrate chiropractic’s birthday with us and save a life by telling someone you know about this 112 year old miracle!

Most people who have never been to a chiropractor think chiropractic is for bad backs. Hopefully you (patients of this office) realize it’s much bigger than that, but let’s look at how it all got started.

Chiropractic was discovered in 1895 by DD Palmer. He had an office in a building in Davenport, Iowa. Harvey Lillard, the building janitor, had been almost completely deaf for 17 years since falling down a flight of stairs. Upon inquiring about his condition, Palmer examined him and noticed a lump on his back indicating a misaligned vertebrae. Upon the application of the first specific adjustment ever, the janitor regained full hearing. At first DD thought he had discovered the cure for deafness, but he quickly realized this wasn’t the case and developed the founding principles of chiropractic based on his discovery.

  1. The human spine is vulnerable to misalignments caused by injury or illness. These misalignments were termed vertebral subluxations.
  2. The resulting interference or damage may affect the nerves leading from the spinal cord to vital organs controlling bodily functions, placing stress on the body’s systems and causing ill health.
  3. A Doctor of Chiropractic is uniquely trained to locate and correct subluxations relieving nerve interference, restoring the body to its natural God given potential for health and function.

Here’s a newer definition from a 1927 Chiropractic textbook:

“Chiropractic is a philosophy, science and art of all things natural; a system of adjusting the segments of the spinal column by hand only, for the correction of the cause of dis-ease.”

Dr. Palmer saw many patients get well from many things through his early form of Chiropractic. He opened a school in Davenport Iowa in the early 20th century and the profession of Chiropractic was born. While DD is called the discoverer of Chiropractic, his son BJ is considered to be the developer of what chiropractic is today.

The Palmer School of Chiropractic is still one of the largest Chiropractic institutions and is still in Davenport, Iowa.

If you are experiencing pain from either a recent injury or a lifetime of struggles against a physical condition. I invite you to stop by our office in Summerville, SC.  I am a properly trained and licensed chiropractor that looks for ways to do more than to treat your pain. We creates a holistic plan to improve your health and well-being from the ground-up, using the minimum amount of low-impact adjustments to keep your body in line.

Modern medicine is a great blessing, but there are limitations to what it can solve. Some medicines are designed to work for a short period of time in cases where our health is in extreme danger. Most of the others are designed to treat symptoms… symptoms that tell us something is gravely wrong – our body’s warning cry that change is needed.

I will help you make those changes with solid, researched, and tested advice. Ask our patients how their lives have changed when you stop in. Most of our staff are even former patients who have experienced dramatic life change. Chiropractic care could be the most affordable investment you make in your future. Best of all, we have a web-only special running where you can receive a certificate for a free exam and consultation so we can discover if there is a way we may help you or your family.

We hope to hear from you soon

Dr. Justin James and the James Family Chiropractic team.

December

T’was the night before Christmas, but Santa could not be found. There were no jingle bells or reindeer sound. There were to be no toys under trees, for Santa was sick. There would be no holiday blessings from the once jolly St. Nick. The children were saddened and no laughter sounded, Christmas was here but, Santa was grounded. As the elves wandered helplessly, what did they see? A great big sign with the letters D.C.

Now they knew Santa was not one to try a new tactic, but since medicine had failed they talked him into trying Chiropractic. Santa entered the office with a smile and a nod, there was no mistaking this place was of God. The children were playing and as far as he could tell, everyone left there smiling and well.

In no time at all, just a few tics of the clock, he was in the exam room talking to Doc. “It must be my age, the stress, and all of the travel; I’m feeling my health starting to unravel. It used to be so easy just carrying dolls, trains, and toy cars, now it’s computers, iPods, and combo DVD/VCRS. If you looked in my sleigh at the size of my pack, I’m sure you would tell me it ruins my back”.

The loving Chiropractor took Santa and X-rayed his spine, and found he had no arc-of-life and several bones out of line. Santa committed to being adjusted for the duration, the moment he learned he had life threatening Subluxation. He got on the table and then with a click, the Doc started adjusting the ailing St. Nick. When Santa was finished most of his sickness felt like it was gone. Once again Santa flowed with love and good cheer, now that his spine and nerve system were clear.

He shouldered his bag and jumped into his sleigh, thinking it had been centuries since he felt this way. Then he shouted, “I’ll bring in Mrs. Kringle and the elves to be checked before the first of the year,

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD YEAR!”
